CalPortland Named Mapistry Innovation Partner of the Year

Mapistry, a leading environmental compliance platform for industrial operations, announced CalPortland environmental managers Leanna East and Bowen Clark as its 2025 Innovation Partners of the Year. The award recognizes their leadership in developing and deploying Maple AI that transforms how industrial operations handle hazardous waste compliance.

Maple AI launched with automated processing of hazardous waste manifests and has rapidly expanded to handle daily operational logs, supplier documentation, and other paper-based compliance records. Early adopters are reporting significant time savings while improving data accuracy and regulatory readiness.

“We build Mapistry with our customers, not just for them. It’s what allows us to create software that gets widely adopted by both environmental and operations teams. Without people like Leanna and Bowen, that wouldn’t be possible,” said Allie Janoch, CEO of Mapistry. “They didn’t just identify a problem – they invested time helping us build a solution and then shared what they learned with the industry. That collaboration is now saving environmental managers across the sector hours of manual work every week.”

East initiated the collaboration in the fall of 2024, identifying RCRA paperwork as an unnecessarily time-intensive process and working directly with Mapistry’s AI team to develop the waste manifest solution. Rather than simply being an early adopter, she invested significant time testing iterations and refining the AI model’s accuracy.

When East transitioned to a new role, Clark continued advancing the solution, expanding analytics capabilities and identifying additional applications for AI-powered document processing across CalPortland’s environmental operations.

The waste manifest solution now processes documents in approximately 10 seconds each, achieving 83% field-level accuracy. Users report saving an average of four hours weekly on waste compliance data entry.
